This class provides basic code knowledge for proper application of the 2018 IWUIC. Instruction focuses on basic code concepts with a focus on mitigating fire risks to structures and wildland. Some background material is provided covering the history of the IWUIC and its need in areas in which human settlement meets wildland areas. The goal of this seminar is to become acquainted with the IWUIC and apply it to a Community Wildfire Protection Plan for a local jurisdiction.

Objectives
  • Utilize the 2018 IWUIC in the performance of their jobs.
  • Enforce code provisions that help prevent the spread of fire from structures to wildland fuels and vice versa.
  • Ensure structures are constructed in a way that limits their possible exposure from fires coming from wildland areas.
  • Ensure proper distances between structures and wildland are observed.
  • Ensure the proper application of fire-protection requirements.
  • Identify the wildland-urban interface areas in their jurisdiction
