Module 4 uses four examples to illustrate the steps to determine minimum wall bracing for the regular procedure of IRC Section R602.10 and the simplified procedure of IRC Section R602.12. Practice with wind bracing adjustment factors is given within the examples as well as a comparison of a house using both the simplified procedure and full procedure. No seismic examples are covered in this module.

  • Determine the required amount of wall bracing for structural safety considering the impact of wind speeds of 115 mph on a single-family home in Seismic Design Category B.
  • Describe the required adjustments to bracing length for wind in a single-story house in a low wind zone.
  • For the simplified wall bracing procedure, determine amount of structural bracing required for wind speeds of 115 mph and Wind Exposure B.
  • Analyze whether the simplified wall bracing procedure or regular wall bracing procedure work better to meet the structural requirements of the IRC with an irregular shaped single-family home.
