ANSI/ASHRAE 15-2010 Safety Standard for Refrigeration Systems and Standard 34-2010 Designation and Classification of Refrigerants (PDF Download)
The PDF/Redline Download option contains PDF files of both the I-Code and a Redline version of the I-Code which shows changes from the previous edition marked in the color red. With the Redline you can see what has been changed from the previous edition. This option is a searchable PDF download that requires a PDF Reader. It is mobile compatible with mobile tablets and smart phones that support the PDF format. The PDF Download is licensed per individual, who may place the file on up to four electronic devices for their personal use. Distribution of the PDF is not permitted. For a volume license the PDF is licensed to the person to which it is assigned. Use on a local area network or other network is not permitted.
Referenced in the 2012 IMC, IRC. ASHRAE Standard 15-2010 establishes safeguards for life, limb, health, and property and prescribes safety requirements. This standard is directed toward the safety of persons and property on or near the premises where refrigeration facilities are located. It includes specifications for fabrication of tight systems but does not address the effects of refrigerant emissions on the environment. This standard applies to: a) the design, construction, test, installation, operation, and inspection of mechanical and absorption refrigeration systems, including heat pump systems used in stationary applications; b) modifications including replacement of parts or components if they are not identical in function and capacity; and c) substitutions of refrigerant having a different designation.
The 2010 edition removes Appendices B and G from and incorporates Addenda a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, and i into ASHRAE Standard 15-2007. While the user of this document should be familiar with the entire standard, its organization into the following sections allows faster location of information. The topics included in these sections are: GENERAL (Sections 1-6): Purpose, Scope, Definitions, Occupancy Classification, Refrigerating System Classification, Refrigerant Classification, Precedence with Conflicting Requirements, Listed Equipment.
RESTRICTIONS (Sections 7-8): Restrictions on Refrigerant Use, Installation Restrictions.
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION (Section 9): Materials, System Design Pressure, Refrigerant-Containing Pressure Vessels, Pressure Relief Protection, Setting of Pressure-Relief Devices, Marking of Pressure-Relief Devices and Fusible Plugs, Pressure Vessel Protection, Positive Displacement Compressor Protection, Pressure-Limiting Devices, Refrigerant Piping, Valves, Fittings and Related Parts, Components Other than Pressure Vessels and Piping, Service Provisions, Fabrication, Factory Tests, and Nameplate.
OPERATION AND TESTING (Section 10): Field Tests, General Requirements.
