ASTM C 616—08a Specification for Quartz Dimension Stone (PDF Download)
The PDF/Redline Download option contains PDF files of both the I-Code and a Redline version of the I-Code which shows changes from the previous edition marked in the color red. With the Redline you can see what has been changed from the previous edition. This option is a searchable PDF download that requires a PDF Reader. For a volume license the PDF is licensed to the person to which it is assigned. Use on a local area network or other network is not permitted.
This specification covers the material characteristics, physical requirements, and sampling method appropriate to the selection of quartz-based dimension stone for general building and structural purposes. Quartz-based dimension stone shall include stone that is sawed, cut, split, or otherwise finished or shaped, and shall specifically exclude molded, cast, or otherwise artificially aggregated units composed of fragments, and also crushed and broken stone. Quartz stones covered here shall be classified according to the free silica content, as follows: sandstone (I); quartzitic sandstone (II); and quartzite (III) The physical property requirements to which quartz-based stones shall adhere to are absorption by weight, density, compressive strength, modulus of rupture, and abrasion resistance.
This standard is referenced in the 2012 International Building Code®.
