Design of Cold-Formed Steel Exterior Wall Connections (Recording)
Exterior cold-formed steel framing is a common system used for the “skin” of a building and is a crucial component of a building’s exterior. Structural engineers need to pay particularly close attention to this system as it is a significant factor in repair costs and recovery times after seismic and wind events, yet it is often not given the attention it deserves. This webinar discusses the following key design issues (and what’s often missed) for exterior cold-formed steel framing, including:
- Application of Loads
- Building movements
- Complete load path
- Engineered and proprietary connections to the base structure (including drift clips)
Over one-third of the presentation detailed examples that illustrates these concepts as well as common mistakes.
Speaker BioKirsten Zeydel is the Director of Design at Nevell Group, Inc. and a Structural Consultant with S.K. Ghosh Associates. She is a licensed Structural Engineer based in Southern California, with over twenty-five years of experience in structural design. While specializing in cold-formed steel framing, Kirsten has experience with all structural materials. She is actively involved in the cold-formed steel code development process and has extensive experience with prefabricated load-bearing panels and pre-finished exterior wall panels. She also has experience with building architectural requirements, including sound/fire ratings and exterior building envelopes.
