According to statistics, the number of unwanted fire alarms occurring throughout the country continues to grow. This course will provide attendees with the primary issues surrounding unwanted and nuisance fire alarms, why they occur, and specific ways to prevent them from happening. While we can never eliminate the problem, there are ways to reduce how often unwanted fire alarms occur. We will discuss specific ways code officials can address the unwanted fire alarm issue through plan review, inspections, and the importance of inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection related equipment. Criteria from the International Fire Code (IFC), NFPA 72 and NFPA 25 will be reviewed.
